Biota Dining

Biota Dining is located in Bowral, in the Southern Highlands, about 1.5 hours south of Sydney. It is on a train line, so if you want to have a few drinks but not stay over, it is easy enough to do a day trip by train. I was lucky enough to dine here for my 40th birthday last year. I had ummed and aahed about where to celebrate this auspicious occasion for awhile, but when I found out Biota had been voted The Best Regional Restaurant in NSW 2013, the job was done. It has since been voted The Best Regional Restaurant in NSW 2014 and 2015. I hired the private dining room and dined with 11 close family and friends. If you have a small group, I thoroughly recommend the private dining room, as it is separate to the rest of the restaurant, but it has a large TV screen with a direct view of the kitchen. It makes for fascinating watching! We had the 3-course menu for $78, which they don’t seem to offer anymore, but it was good value as it included side dishes and tea/coffee. They now offer a bar menu, a 6 or 8 course degustation and weekend brunch.  Biota is not your usual restaurant, as it has its own kitchen garden. It reminded me of Attica (see our review here) in that respect. All of their ingredients are sourced locally and seasonally, and needless to say, the food was delicious.
