Bloodwood

I dined at Bloodwood years ago and have been meaning to go back for a long time, but since Hartsyard opened in Newtown, Bloodwood has gained some competition! That being said, Bloodwood is damn good, and probably less likely to give you a heart attack than Hartstyard! We were going to see Paul Kelly at The Enmore Theatre, so turned up early (6.10pm) at Bloodwood (unfortunately, they don’t take bookings for less than 8 people). Within five minutes, we had a choice of tables (inside or the terrace – we choose the terrace which was actually undercover and had heaters) and been apologised to for the wait. What wait?! There are so many other things I could rave out, such as the waitress advising us that we had ordered too much (we dropped a dish and was glad we did so, as we were full), it is child friendly, and the polenta chips with the gorgonzola sauce! The Argyle Beef Striploin with mushrooms and potato crisps was also amazing, but the polenta chips are one of their signature dishes for good reason. Their were a few small downsides however; they had ran out of two of the beers including one they recommended, the food was slow to come out at the start (I imagine that is due to a lot of people arriving around 6pm, though they open at 5pm) and not being able to book means you need to arrive early (it looked full by 6.30pm the night we dined there). As I mentioned though, the wait was insignificant and the polenta chips made up for everything else!
