I first had Burgers by Josh (or BBJ, as it is affectionately known by its fans) at The Spectrum Festival in the Domain a few months ago, and was immediately smitten. So when I found out that it was popping up for the month of April at The Annandale Hotel, just down the road from where I live, I made sure I got down there quick sharpish.
This time I ordered the signature J Burger with the wagyu blend, J Sauce and American cheese. I asked the bar staff what J Sauce was and she admitted that she was not sure, adding “It’s Burger by Josh’s menu, not ours”. I was a little disappointed by this attitude, more than the lack of knowledge. The Annandale Hotel has hosted several kitchen pop-ups, and in fact, pride themselves on being ‘the home of the pop-ups’, so I was surprised they did not appear to train their own staff more. I also ordered the Jurrasic Fries to share, with liquid cheese and primo sauce.

Sadly, yesterday was BBJ’s last day at The Annandale Hotel, but I’m sure BBJ will be popping up again somewhere soon. Watch this space for updates.
