For my birthday last year, my partner took me to Hobart for a long weekend. On day one, we ended up spontaneously deciding to visit Bruny Island. Best. Decision. Ever! We didn’t have a huge amount of time as we were meeting friends for dinner in Hobart that evening, so we did a bit of a recky (with a plan to stay overnight on the Island next time) and basically ate our way round. We started at The Smokehouse & Whiskey Bar, where we tried a few whiskies and pates, before having our first Moo Brew of the weekend on the balcony. It’s a great spot and near the ferry, but we found most things to be overpriced. The next stop was Get Shucked, where we had half a dozen Dressed and half a dozen Kilpatrick Oysters. These must be amongst the freshest oysters in the world. They also have the world’s first oyster drive thru for quick take away oysters. These were just the warm up. For our main ‘lunch’ we went to Bruny Island Cheese. After trying a few of their cheeses, we ordered the Cheese Platter to share, which came with lots of cheese, and for a nice change, lots of bread too. I find you usually run out of bread/crackers with cheese plates, but not here. She also said we could have more complimentary bread if we liked, but it wasn’t necessary.
